Locomobile Lofts – 2000 S. Michigan (33 Units)
In the early part of the twentieth century, Chicago’s historic Motor Row District was a bustling center for automobile showrooms and service departments. Now this well-preserved stretch of South Michigan Avenue serves another purpose – residential hotspot. Locomobile Lofts is a redevelopment of one of the old auto buildings, a brick three-story 1909 construction in the heart of the South Loop.
The building was renovated and reconfigured into 33 loft condominiums with one- to three-bedroom floor plans. The units are between 725 and 2150 square feet, some with lofted multi-level layouts. Interior finishes include oak floors in the main living areas (including the kitchen), luxury bedroom carpeting, cultured marble countertops and ceramic tiling in the bathrooms, designer cabinetry, and track lighting. Sixteen-foot concrete ceilings and structural columns give the units that loft-like touch, as does the exposed spiral ductwork and brick walls. The gourmet kitchens feature frost-free refrigerators, quality ovens ranges, dishwashers and microwaves, granite counters, 4” backsplashes, and stainless steel sinks.
The immense 9-foot-high pictures windows in Locomobile Lofts have double-pane insulated glass. And all units have individually controlled high-efficiency furnaces and cooling systems. Each loft is pre-wired for cable TV and phone lines in the living and bedrooms. There is a closed circuit TV with intercom to the entry lobby and a state-of-the-art elevator that services the building. New electrical and plumbing was installed during the rehab process and an exercise room was also included in the restoration plans. Locomobile Lofts has secure indoor parking and individual storage lockers for resident use, located on the first-floor of the building.
Locomobile Lofts is within walking distance to numerous South Loop restaurants and the southern tip of Chicago’s Museum Campus (where Soldier Field and Burnham Park Harbor are). Nearby public transportation options include the Cermak-Chinatown Blue Line CTA train stop (five blocks southwest) and the 18th Street Metra commuter rail station (four blocks northeast). Lake Shore Drive is also right there, as well as the Stevenson and Dan Ryan expressways.
